The Duties under the FMC Act and obligations in the Code of Professional Conduct provides all advisers and advice firms an exciting opportunity to review and revamp their business and advice practices in the new licensed regime. The challenge is to turn a new compliance requirement into an effective business-transformation process – one that adds value to your clients and builds trust in you, their adviser. In a ‘principles-based’ environment some of the pressing questions are; How do you actually know your client understands your recommendations? Do your client-files reflect any of the diversity and vulnerabilities of your client base? If a colleague were to review your files is there clear evidence your advice is suitable for your client? Is it totally apparent you’ve placed your client’s needs and interests first - effectively communicating and mitigating any conflicts of interests? 	Sharon Corbett, Manager Financial Markets, MBIE Sharon manages the financial markets policy team at MBIE, which includes responsibility for the new financial advice regime, the recently announced reforms to regulate the conduct of financial institutions, and the current KiwiSaver default provider review.
	John Botica, Director Market Engagement, FMA John is an experienced senior executive, director and consultant in the financial services industry. He was co-founder of the Assure NZ Group, Managing Director at Guardian Trust and General Manager Wealth Management at AXA.
	Angus Dale-Jones, Chair, Code Working Group Angus is a chartered accountant and former financial services regulator in Australia and NZ. Angus runs a conduct, compliance and regulatory strategy consultancy.
	Katrina Shanks CEO, Financial Advice New Zealand Katrina Shanks is the CEO of Financial Advice New Zealand, an organisation which focuses on standards, advocacy and promotion of advice to the New Zealand public for the mutual benefit of advisers, consumers and other stakeholders.
	Derek Grantham, Principal Consultant, FMA Derek brings the AFA perspective into the work and thinking of the FMA. He brings his experience as a financial adviser and as Head of Adviser Services for a national advisory firm to his role within the FMA’s regulation team.
	Richard Klipin, CEO, Richard has extensive experience in leading and transforming industry associations, life insurance manufacturers and financial advice businesses, having held senior leadership roles in all sectors over the past 16 years.
